Volker Beckers Appointed Chairman of Albion Community Power…

VOLKER BECKERS APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF ALBION COMMUNITY POWERAlbion Ventures has announced the appointment of Volker Beckers as Chairman of Albion Community Power (“ACP”), a power generation company that aims to be a major producer of community scale renewable energy.  His appointment follows ACP’s first close which was ahead of target and attracted commitments from retail investors and family offices.

Volker Beckers was Group CEO of RWE Npower plc from 2010 to 2012 and prior to that Group CFO from 2003 to 2009. He is a member of King’s College London’s advisory board at the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security and received the Outstanding Contribution Award at the 2012 Energy Awards. He is also a Non-Executive Director of HM Revenue & Customs, Chairman of SpencerAM Limited, Non-Executive Director of Elexon Limited and is a member of the Universiteit Rotterdam’s advisory board at the Centre for Future Energy Business.

ACP aims to be a major producer of community scale renewable energy by raising up to £100 million to power some 35,000 UK homes.  The company will invest in a range of renewable energy projects using proven technologies including brownfield wind, solar, hydroelectricity, biogas and biomass1.

David Gudgin, Managing Director of ACP and Head of Renewables at Albion Venturessaid, “We are delighted to welcome Volker to the Board of ACP.  He brings a wealth of management experience as well as valuable insight into the renewable energy market and will play a key role in shaping ACP’s strategy over the coming years.

“We are very pleased to have exceeded our first close target for ACP and look forward to building on this momentum over the coming months as increasing numbers of investors capitalise on the UK’s transition towards clean energy production.”

Commenting on his appointment Volker Beckers said, “I am excited to accept the appointment.  Albion already has a strong track record in renewable energy and ACP is well placed to capitalise on the growing number of investment opportunities in this sector.  I am looking forward to working closely with the team to ensure ACP builds on its promising start and becomes a significant investment force in renewable energy.”

The Board of ACP currently comprises Robert Armour, former General Counsel at British Energy as a Non-Executive Director as well as Patrick Reeve, Managing Partner, David Gudgin, Head of Renewables and Isabel Dolan, Operations Partner at Albion Ventures.
