Office re-fit sees windfalls for good causes…

Submitted by on November 22, 2019 – 6:30 am |

Higgs_ResonanceA West Midlands law firm has undergone works to create a state-of-the art new workspace – with the added bonus of windfalls for two good causes.

Higgs & Sons, headquartered at The Waterfront in Brierley Hill, turned to Overbury for the re-fit, one of the UK’s leading office fit out and refurbishment specialist. They were tasked with creating a modern smart-working office space, complete with hot-desk options and privacy pods

As a result of the transformation, Higgs was left with a surplus of ‘as good as new’ office supplies – desks, chairs, drawer pedestals, carpet tiles and stationery.

Too good to consign to the skip, the firm thought it was an ideal opportunity to help out two good causes.

“The carpet tiles and furniture that were no longer required were almost immaculate, and there were multiple ring binders, paper and items of stationery,” explained Nyree Applegarth, a Partner at Higgs.

“It seemed a crying shame not to put them all to good use so we donated them to Resonance and Just Be A Child.”

Resonance is a brand-new higher education provider, created by the music business, for the music business. Based at Cable Plaza on the Waterfront complex in Brierley Hill, the purpose-built facilities provide everything an ambitious musician, producer, composer, teacher and entrepreneur could need when it opens in 2020.

Chris Cronin, CEO at Resonance, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Higgs & Sons for its generosity in donating Resonance new desks, chairs, drawer pedestals and floor tiles.

“As a not-for-profit organisation, gifts like this are invaluable and it really shows the sense of community already present at The Waterfront. This makes us all the more excited to get the keys for the building back in the new year and to see the hard work pay off when we welcome our first cohort of students in September 2020.”

Just Be A Child is a charity that inspires Kenyan children to read. About 10,000 books per shipment are collected and sent to Kenya to inspire the education of children in poor communities. As well as books, Just Be A Child provides the youngsters with paper clips, pens, scissors, hole punchers, folders and paper.

Nyree added: “We are delighted with our refurbished office space, which has offered us a new way of smart working. However, the added bonus of knowing we have helped out two such excellent good causes is especially pleasing.”
