MPA major UK credit union which has its headquarters in Wolverhampton has received a pre-Christmas visit from its local MP.

Eleanor Smith, MP for Wolverhampton South West, met staff members of the Penny Post Credit Union based at the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Sun Street.

During her visit, Labour MP Ms Smith became an honorary member of the credit union, which provides financial services, including savings and loans, to Royal Mail employees across the UK.

It currently has around 10,000 members after enjoying strong growth in recent years, and has ambitious plans to continue its expansion.

Ms Smith said: “The Penny Post Credit Union has members right across the country and it’s fantastic to see the central hub is based in Wolverhampton.

“The team does a fantastic job providing important financial services to Royal Mail employees and I’m delighted to have been offered the chance to become an honorary member.

“With the worrying rise of payday loans, it is important to see responsible lending credit unions including Penny Post continuing to grow.”

Matt Goulding, chief executive of Penny Post Credit Union, said: “We were delighted to welcome Eleanor to the office.

“She has been a strong supporter of Penny Post and made a pre-Christmas visit to the office over the last few years, so we were thrilled she accepted our offer of honorary membership.”
