Mills & Reeve have great deals to celebrate…

Julian Smith - PRMills & Reeve’s Birmingham corporate and commercial team celebrates a string of high profile deals plus big leap in Experian ranking

The corporate and commercial team at the firm’s Birmingham office have had a very successful 2018, which was marked by a number of key deals.

They assisted Midlands-based healthcare giant Alliance Medical, which supplies scanning and diagnostic services across Europe, on strategic acquisitions, and advised on the sale of Zettlex, a leading supplier of high tech components to medical, industrial and defence equipment manufacturers to NASDAQ listed Novanta.

The team recently advised the shareholders of Alliance in Partnership, including Key Capital Partners, on its sale of the business to global multinational, Sodexo. This was the culmination of a five years relationship with the business, having advised Key Capital on the acquisition in 2014.

The team also worked with Stantec, and have been advising them on various deals including the acquisitions of Peter Brett Associates and ESI Consulting.

Another significant deal was the secondary buyout of Indigo Telecom, which made the shareholders more than four times the money invested in less than three years. The deal wasn’t an easy one – when the team were due to complete, the initial buyer pulled out at the last moment. The team were able to successfully re-market and achieve a better price all within three months of the original deal falling through.

The number of deals the team have participated in has seen them shoot up the Experian rankings, rising to third place in the Midlands in Experian’s 2018 rankings of the most active M&A advisers. The firm also ranked fourth nationally.

Julian Smith, corporate partner in Mills & Reeve’s Birmingham office, said: “The last year has seen the team working on some high profile, and often complicated, deals. The work we’ve done shows that businesses are looking to Birmingham and the Midlands more than ever when it comes to their corporate and M&A work.

From deals involving Midlands based organisations, to manufacturers in the US and leading healthcare businesses, it’s extremely gratifying that our hard work has been reflected in our fantastic Experian rankings.”
