LATEST: Family affair for Clare as she returns to the business…
Experienced customer service and staff training specialist Clare Falls has made a welcome return to her family’s business, General Building Plastics Limited (GB Plastics), a supplier of one of the UK’s largest ranges of PVC building products to the trade and DIY sectors.
Clare is back at the second generation family business, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, to take up the new post of Support Manager after more than eight years as a Relief Manager for hospitality and leisure business Marstons.
In the role, Clare will provide a range of managerial and staff development support to each of the company’s Branch Managers and their teams across the GB Plastics’ Midlands network of six offices and trade counters in Rugeley, its head office, Shrewsbury, Walsall, Banbury, Kettering and Oswestry.
Reporting directly to GB Plastics’ General Manager Matt Wedderkopp, Clare’s role enables her to utilise and channel her extensive experience in staff training, as she explains: “Training staff in the hospitality industry is a major element of the day-to-day role of a Relief Manager, and the newly created post with GB Plastics is an ideal opportunity to channel this experience to provide additional product and customer service training and guidance to Branch Managers across each of the counter locations.
“I am really excited to have the opportunity, and particularly to be back working with my mother, sister and brother in the family business. So much has changed in the last eight years – the company has grown significantly by adding a number of trade counters to its Midlands network, has increased staff numbers, and extended the product range, which is bigger than ever before. No two days are the same – I will be at whichever trade counter needs extra support or an extra pair of hands, and alongside will coordinate and deliver the staff training and development, which will also vary from branch to branch. This variety adds up to the ideal job for me, I like nothing better than to learn and tackle something new every day!”
Wendy Hill, Director at GB Plastics and Clare’s sister adds: “This is a new role created in response to sustained growth and levels of business – particularly as we now have six branches across the Midlands. Clare has already had a positive effect on the whole team. It’s excellent to have her on board, and for her to be making such a positive impact so quickly since rejoining the family business.”
GB Plastics was founded in 1990 by Janet Sutherland who continues to work in the business, alongside her son Alan and eldest daughter Wendy Hill, both Directors. The company is a specialist supplier of quality PVC building products to the trade and DIY sectors with customers spanning house builders, property developers, local authorities and installers, and has one of the UK’s largest ranges of PVC products for interior and exterior applications.
Over the last 25 years, the company has grown to include its Rugeley head office, and a network of branches and trade counters in Shrewsbury, Walsall, Banbury, Kettering and Oswestry.
