Knock-out Donation For Community Boxing Club…

Submitted by on March 18, 2020 – 7:00 am |

Parkinsons ClassA rapidly expanding Solihull boxing club has received a grant from a leading housebuilder to help replace basic training equipment.

West Warwicks Amateur Boxing Club was awarded £1,000 through the Persimmon Homes Community Champions, a match funding scheme which donates up to £2,000 to community groups each month.

Paul Gilmore, head coach at the club, said: “We area a community sports club set up to provide high quality boxing training and competitive opportunities for members aged eight and upwards and boxing skills and fitness training for community groups.

“We moved to significantly larger and refurbished premises and now offer specialised programmes for specific community groups such as people living with Parkinson’s disease, after school clubs for 14-16 year olds to reduce the risk of anti-social behaviour, girls only, and boxing and fitness classes for 8-15 year olds not currently participating in sport outside school.

“The club is expanding its numbers rapidly due to these programmes and aims to have even more joining in, but in order to achieve this, more equipment is required. All equipment is used communally and becomes worn, tatty (and smelly) very quickly. £1,000 will contribute towards replacing and extending basic training equipment items such as a punchbag, boxing gloves, hand wraps, focus pads, skipping ropes and hurdles.

“Thanks to Persimmon Homes for the money which will enable more people to improve their physical and mental health and well being in a safe and professional setting.”

Sarah Preston, Sales Director Designate for Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are delighted to support West Warwicks ABC, activity is so important to mental and physical well-being.

“As a company we are committed to supporting community groups and organisations that make a real difference to local people – just like this one.

“If people have been unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and try again. Hopefully they will become our next winner.”

Community groups, charities and good causes across the country have benefited thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes.

Organisations can apply for match funding by completing a simple online form at
