Higgs & Sons complete five in five over busy Christmas period…
Higgs & Sons’ Business Services Department has had a busy lead up to the Christmas period with the completion of five multi-million pound corporate transactions in five days
Susheel Gupta, Head of Business Tax and Wealth Preservation and the client relationship manager on the transactions said: “We are seeing an increasing amount of activity in the owner managed business market due to the current uncertainty over the future availability of Entrepreneurs’ Relief. Shareholders are seriously considering their options, and in some cases expediting their succession plans.”
The latest deals overseen by the team at Higgs included two management buyouts, another multi nursery site acquisition for Old Station Nursery and the sale of a majority stake in Brian James Trailers to the Swedish listed company, Lifco AB.
Susheel added: “As with any potential transaction, the key to maximising value for shareholders is in planning and ensuring they are well positioned for any type of transaction. That takes time, but the team here at Higgs & Sons have considerable experience in ensuring shareholders are best placed to ensure they are set up and ready to go.”
Richard Griffiths, Head of the Corporate team at Higgs, explained: “It has been a really busy period for the team but one that we have relished and have found immensely rewarding.
“These recent deals have involved challenging timetables, but we have a committed team of specialist lawyers who always pull together to proactively manage deals and ensure that client deadlines are met.
“Our pipeline remains strong and we are looking to taking this momentum into 2020.”
With the Conservative party stating in their manifesto that they are to review Entrepreneurs’ Relief and that there will be a post Brexit budget (currently planned in February) Susheel added: “It is imperative that owner managers review their tax position sooner rather than later.”
