Three local causes have joined forces to host a brunch and Snowdon climb for residents of Birmingham’s first permanent night shelter. Evolve, a social enterprise café that provides work for young people facing barriers to employment, will be hosting a brunch for the residents of Tabor House, ahead of them embarking on a team climb of Mount Snowdon. What’s more, volunteers from Let’s Feed Brum will be leading the way for the trekkers as well as providing snacks and water to keep them going.

The not-for-profit coffee shop, run by charity Aquarius, will be serving up a nutritious breakfast to-go from its Digbeth café, which is located a handy three-minute walk away from the door of Tabor House. 45 of Tabor House’s residents will be getting their fill before taking on the largest mountain in Wales this Saturday 10 August.

Kate Hemming, the project lead for Evolve, commented:

“We’re so looking forward to hosting our friends from Tabor House on Saturday and back their efforts to climb Snowdon whole-heartedly. As a social enterprise, we’re always looking for new ways to give back and help those who need it most, so the relationship with Tabor House felt like a natural one.

“As the famous song goes, everybody needs good neighbours, and Evolve knows first-hand how a little kindness can go a long way. We hope we can give Tabor House the fuel and the encouragement to take on this huge challenge. We wish them all the success and will be cheering them on every step of the way!”

Tabor House, whose residents and volunteers will be taking on Snowdon, is Birmingham’s only permanent night shelter for people experiencing tough times on the streets. Launched by iShelter, the project provides a safe and welcoming environment for guests, with evening meals, breakfasts, showers and laundry included in their stay.

The Snowdon challenge will be led by Let’s Feed Brum’s Daniel Hadley and Gary Haywood, and will see Tabor House’s residents and volunteers push themselves to the limits on a journey of self-discovery, testing their resilience and resolve as they work as a collective to reach their own personal goals and achieve something brilliant.

Tabor House’s Manager Sharon Fear said:

“This is a great opportunity for our guests to climb mountains, physically and metaphorically. If they can achieve something as large as a mountain, they can achieve anything! Evolve has been kind enough to host a breakfast brunch, it’s great to be able to collaborate with other charities in the city it gives a sense of family.”

Tabor House will be embarking on this challenge on Saturday 10 August. To find out what else Tabor House is up to visit www.fatherhudsons.org.uk/community-projects/tabor-house/191.htm.
