Coventry University voted into top two by satisfied students…

Submitted by on August 14, 2013 – 8:15 am |

Danielle Warren - Coventry UniversityCoventry University’s reputation has received another boost ahead of this week’s A-level results day, with student satisfaction levels rising significantly for the fifth consecutive year.

The National Student Survey 2013, published Tuesday 13th August, sees Coventry climb into the top two of modern universities in the whole of the UK for student satisfaction, and retain its position as a leading Midlands institution.

Coventry’s overall score increased to 90% of final year undergraduates who are satisfied with the quality of their course, up from 86% in 2012 and five percent better than the national average for England.

The University does particularly well in the teaching quality category, with 94% of students surveyed agreeing that tutors are “good at explaining things” and 93% saying staff members are “enthusiastic about what they are teaching”.

According to the survey, which in 2013 was completed by over 283,000 students around the UK, Coventry is also in the top 15 of all universities in the UK.

The University’s School of Art and Design scored especially strongly, with the design and visual arts department – which includes fashion – registering 92% student satisfaction ratings for teaching quality.

Danielle Warren, 21, who graduated from the BA (Hons) Fashion course this summer, took part in the survey earlier this year – she has since secured a design placement with leading ethical clothing brand Annie Greenabelle.

Danielle said:

“In the fashion department the tutors and technicians are brilliant, providing support to help us develop a vast skill set and knowledge of all aspects of the industry. A key part alongside the course is to gain experience outside of the University from placements and internships. Over the three years, with my experience from the industry, I have become more confident in the skills I’ve gained and I feel prepared and excited to start work.”

Professor Ian Marshall, deputy vice-chancellor of Coventry University, said:

“Value for money is an increasingly significant factor for students considering university courses, so we are very pleased to see the satisfaction levels of our undergraduates continuing to rise.

“We’re particularly delighted that key aspects of our courses such as teaching quality have been praised by current students, to the extent that Coventry ranks amongst the best in the country.

“It is a testament to the ongoing hard work of our staff, who ensure we are continuously providing a quality experience and an engaging learning environment for our students, plus an array of work placement opportunities to build their confidence and give them the best preparation for employment.”

In June Coventry rose 13 places to 33rd in the Guardian University Guide 2014 – its highest ever position – and it ranked in the country’s top 20 for the quality of teaching, as rated by students.

The University is now preparing for A-level results day and the clearing process, and is encouraging students who are interested in studying at Coventry to ‘drop in’ on Friday 16th August or attend the clearing open day on Saturday 17th August.
