Big Brother CCTV brings and end to Scout group break-ins…
Since moving to Waterloo Street in Hanley the scout group has been broken into, which is “soul destroying” in the words of Group Scout Leader Maureen Baverstock.
Maureen entered a Facebook competition that Big Brother CCTV, which is based at Park Hall Business Village, ran earlier in the Autumn.
The group had been considering implementing a CCTV system for a long time, however due to the cost other tasks were prioritised. This led Maureen to enter the competition.
She said: “People work really hard to provide as much for the Scouts as possible and then for someone to break-in and take it all away is terrible. The feeling we have knowing that we now have security with the system from Big Brother CCTV in place is unbelievable.
“It will make an enormous difference to the safety of our building and its contents. It has taken us over 43 years to get our own building and equipment good enough to provide the best scouting possible to children in our community.”
The competition received over 130 entrants and offered two cameras, a recorder and all of the connectors and cabling necessary to ensure it is a fully functioning system.
Karen Fenton, Sales Manager at Big Brother CCTV said: “It was a random selection and we ran the competition because we wanted to give something back to the community.
“We are incredibly happy that we were able to help the Scouts and we have received some lovely comments from all of the entrants.”
When Maureen presented the kit to the committee at the headquarters she was met with a round of applause. She added: “It’s the best time to have received something like this as we lock up over Christmas so it will make a great difference to us.
The headquarters is an important facility in the community. It is open virtually every day for various clubs and activities including fundraisers, a Viking re-enactment club and a small group of autistic children.
