Apprenticeship Academy to launch at college fair…

Submitted by on September 16, 2015 – 6:50 am |

Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi visiting the College’s Engineering Apprentices in March this yearStratford-upon-Avon College is about to introduce a new service for local young people.  This month sees the launch of its Apprenticeship Academy which will help the county’s school and college leavers.

As part of the College’s commitment to apprenticeship and employment-focused training programmes, the Academy’s aim is to provide assistance to students who have applied for apprenticeships but are yet to secure an employer.  It will offer weekly coaching sessions on vital skills such as CV writing and effective interview practice, providing students with the best chance of obtaining a place with the employer of their choice.

Stevie Edmund-Jones, Head of Employer Engagement at the College, is confident the Academy will be a great help in preparing students for their first step in a working environment:  “We are very proud of this latest initiative which will undoubtedly assist students interested in work-based training to secure the right apprenticeship and set them on the path to career success.“

The Academy will be officially launched on Friday 18 September at the College’s ‘Get the Edge’ Apprenticeship Careers Fair.  Employers interested in the scheme, and school and college leavers who are excited about the chance to kick-start their careers with local firms as apprentices, will have the opportunity to meet informally and discover the mutual benefits of apprenticeship programmes.

In addition to talks aimed at both students and employers from the College’s Apprenticeship Team, Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi and business entrepreneur Lord Digby Jones will both be attending the fair and will say a few words to the guests about the advantages of taking on an apprentice.

‘Get the Edge’ takes place from 1pm to 3.30pm, with employers invited to come arrive from 12pm to attend a business networking lunch.
