AMEC Celebrates UK National Women in Engineering Day…
AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, is marking National Women in Engineering Day on 23 June with a host of special events at its offices throughout the UK.
National Women in Engineering Day has been set up by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) to celebrate its 95th anniversary and is using the occasion to focus attention on the great opportunities for women in engineering, at a time when it has never been more important to address the engineering skills shortage.
AMEC Group HR Director Will Serle said that attracting a diverse workforce into the company is a key driver: “Attracting more women into science and engineering is one part of our diversity and inclusion policy across the company and we are determined to make further progress.”
Among the AMEC events happening across the country is a visit to the laboratory facilities in Birchwood, Warrington, by Culcheth High School, a visit to the Overhead Line Training School in Darlington, by the Woodham Academy in County Durham, while a number of schools are holding competitions to build structures from specially designed AMEC toy plastic bricks.
In addition, the Assistant Engineer for Leicestershire County Council and Professor of Microelectronics from Sheffield University are joining AMEC’s Leicester office for a schools event, while in Aberdeen there is a mini assessment centre running to help with career planning and employment skills.
