Submitted by on July 6, 2015 – 6:50 am |

Stephen Robinson with Abbey Birmingham's unsung hero Farzana PervezAn invaluable teacher has been praised for her microscopic attention to detail during her time at Abbey College Birmingham.

Farzana Pervez, (30), of Bagot Street, Birmingham has been named the independent college’s Unsung Hero 2015 at a prestigious award ceremony.

Biology teacher, Farzana, has added value to the wider Science department by using her excellent organisational skills and her keen attention to detail.

Her extra-curricular activities at the college have been admirable and she also took on the role of leader of the student council. During her three years at the college she has encouraged students to raise money for local charitable causes and has organised some memorable college events such as the prom.

Farzana also volunteered to accompany the Science department on a trip to Iceland in the February half term last year.

She also founded the Book and Cake Decorating Club which was coined as “legendary” in the college as it was an innovative and popular extra-curricular activity.

Principal Stephen Robinson said: “Farzana generates consistently excellent feedback from students, both for the quality of her teaching and for the very high level of support she gives to the students as a Personal Tutor. Students are always confident that, in Farzana’s care, they are in very capable hands.”

Farzana said: “I love Abbey College Birmingham; it is a pleasure to work here. It does not feel like work when I come in every morning and it is a joy to be a part of the student council. I am honoured to have received this award and to have my passion for the college recognised.”
